Description

This weekend is turning out to be really productive and this took about 6 hours today. I had fun with the fiberglass brush and learned a new technique.

This is the last 8x10 amperstand scratchboard I have. I am going go upscale and order a bigger boards today - 11x14?

I closely compared the reference photo with this wonderful sketch. The fur is amazingly rendered in a neat style. It doesn't 100% match the photo's fur patterns, but it does give the cat a more lynx-like look, more aggressive. The head has a longer, leaner neck. The fur lines coming off the right eye are bolder than the picture, it stands out much better.

This is a vision of power, more power than a small cat might be though to possess. The face looks intently at its target, the eyes locked on. The mouth is impassive, like the animal is patiently waiting and trying not to make a sound.

This has some originality to it, due to the slight enhanced look over the original color reference photo. This is a case of an imperfect sketch with a better feel to it.

The technique is amazing, the individual hairs, the whiskers, the shading, the eyes, the nose, the mouth, beautifully replicated in pencil. This leaner beast gives quite the impact.
